Cross-sector value delivered for Bayleys Business

A recent transaction involving one of New Zealand’s leading contract manufacturers has highlighted the strength of Bayleys’ collaboration and the value of its nationwide network.

The vendor, who has spent nearly three decades building a highly successful enterprise, sought to prioritise the sale of the business before turning attention to the associated property asset. This sequencing created a unique challenge, as the commercial sales team could not market the property until the business transaction had been finalised.

To navigate this complexity, the vendor appointed Bayleys Business, led by national director William Cheong, to manage the business sale.

Leveraging deep sector knowledge and a coordinated strategy, the team worked closely with Bayleys’ commercial specialists to ensure a seamless process from end to end.

Rather than operating in isolation, the divisions worked together, aligning timelines, sharing insights, and supporting the client through each stage. The result was the successful sale of both the business and the property, exemplifying the power of Bayleys’ unified, full-service approach.

Cheong says the process required precision and adaptability at every stage. “The buyer opted to purchase shares in the company, adding a layer of complexity to the deal structure. Our team provided tailored advice, drawing on our experience as business brokers to advise on the formulation and negotiation of the bespoke share purchase agreement by lawyers. The inclusion of a working capital mechanism and comprehensive vendor warranties provided further clarity and confidence for stakeholders.”

“From the first introduction and assessment of the opportunity through due diligence and negotiation to final settlement, our focus was on delivering clarity, confidence and continuity.”

The vendor, now moving into a new chapter, expressed confidence that their staff and legacy were in trusted hands, a reflection of Bayleys’ ability to connect the right people and deliver exceptional results.

Cheong says the transaction highlights the benefits of operating within New Zealand’s largest, full-service real estate network.

“At Bayleys, collaboration is not just a principle, it’s a performance advantage. Our integrated structure enables us to unlock opportunities that might otherwise remain out of reach, ensuring that our clients benefit from the full depth of our commercial, business, and professional services expertise.”

The sale coincides with renewed momentum across New Zealand’s business and investment landscape. Budget 2025’s ‘Growth Budget’ delivered targeted measures to stimulate economic activity, including the new Investment Boost – an accelerated depreciation incentive – alongside government programs designed to open the country to global investment through the Active Investor Plus and Business Investment Visa pathways.

Cheong says these incentives, coupled with a strong appetite from local lenders, are creating the most favourable conditions in years for business owners considering an exit.

“Our team has worked closely with immigration advisors and legal representatives to position Bayleys Business at the forefront of these emerging foreign buyer opportunities - connecting quality New Zealand businesses with international investors who see the long-term potential of this market.”

As Bayleys Business continues to expand its national footprint, Cheong says the focus remains on strengthening relationships, driving recruitment, and maximising outcomes for clients through collaboration.

“Our success in this transaction reflects what happens when specialist divisions work as one team. By leveraging our network, knowledge, and resources, we continue to set the benchmark for excellence and client satisfaction in the national business sales market.”
